A number of economic and social benefits would be created from the i-METT project

Some of these include:

Employment
Education
Economic Potential
Trade Development
Tourism

Employment

The development would create as many as 5000 ongoing jobs for South East Queensland, which does not include jobs created during the construction phase or those resulting from increased tourism and associated service industries.

Further details on employment opportunities will become available when Government approvals have been received.

Education

The education facility will provide quality training and education for all operational elements of the precinct including:

  • Training in planning, services, operations, safety, security to worlds best practice
  • Training in technology, broadcasting and sustainability
  • Links to associated educational institutions including the motor sport industry, universities and TAFE colleges
  • Training to FIA, FIM, CAMS and MA standards
  • Working with key education facilitators

Economic Potential

The development holds enormous potential for the Queensland economy, generating significant income from visitors to the region and ongoing television coverage on a national and international basis. i-METT will be a focus for international events that will attract international visitors to the South East Queensland region.

Trade Development

International and national trade development is a priority for most Governments, and increasing export trade benefits everyone. Gold Coast is in an ideal location and time zone to optimise business and tourist potential with Asia, the Middle East, North and South America and New Zealand, and to facilitate the development and growth of new industries.

The integrated facilities within the i-METT precinct will attract high-level technology-centred organisations and create a platform for the development of motor sport under the Queensland Government’s ‘Smart State’ initiative.

Tourism

Event tourism is becoming increasingly popular, with thousands of sports fans following event programs around the world annually. i-METT will attract a series of high profile international and national events and this, of course, translates to valuable tourist income and jobs for locals.

Ongoing facilities, such as a world-class theme park, entertainment and the motor racing museum, will ensure a constant stream of tourism is maintained all year round.
